Zvi Schwartz is a Professor of Periodontics at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel and Professor of Periodontics and Orthopaedics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Dr. Schwartz' research interests focus on the regulation of bone and cartilage formation and mineralization by growth factors, hormones, and cytokines. He is also interested in understanding (1) how changes in surface roughness regulate cell response to systemic hormones and local factors; (2) how osteoblasts respond to wear debris; and (3) how bone graft substitutes, such as demineralized freeze-dried bone allograft, induce new bone formation.
